Contributions come first
Each person gets credit for legal fees and, if enabled, agreed work value. The difference between the total award and those credits is the group’s surplus or shortfall.

Include the agreed value of correspondence, case preparation and other work. Switch off to compare cash contributions only.
“Paid back” means cash already received from this award, not extra money paid in. Add extra legal funding to “Legal fees”.
Different agreements lead to different outcomes.
A shared understanding
Choose a method your group agrees with. This is a planning tool, not a decision about anyone’s legal entitlement.
Each person gets credit for legal fees and, if enabled, agreed work value. The difference between the total award and those credits is the group’s surplus or shortfall.
Split that difference equally, by lodges, or by contribution. Add each person’s credit, then subtract what they’ve already received. That’s their remaining balance.
With equal or lodge-based sharing, people who funded less than their share pay in, so those who funded more get money back. Contribution-based sharing instead leaves each person bearing their own contribution if the pot is zero.
